The Save Straddie Alliance is a group of groups and individuals who are very concerned about the impact of sandmining on the environment and future of North Stradbroke Island. Our work is funded through donations from members of the community and is primarily based on volunteers’ time. The mining company, Sibelco (formerly Unimin), is an enormous multinational company with a worldwide turnover in the billions. Sibelco is running an expensive public relations campaign attempting to ensure the Queensland government allows them to continue to profit from mining until the island’s mineral sand ore has all been mined.
