Campbell Newman promised pre 2012 State election to restore rights and not give Sibelco anything more
On Friday 20 January 2012, Campbell Newman announced on radio that he wanted destructive sand mining to continue on Stradbroke Island, but he said he would restore rights taken away by the former government and not give Sibelco anything more. He denied he would extend Sibelco’s mining interests. Despite the mixed messages from the LNP, Campbell Newman did not withdraw these promises prior to the 2012 State election. He went to the election with these promises.
